The Sembrich Cherven Traktor
Sembrich 'World Music Wednesday' with Cherven Traktor
Authentic Bulgarian and Macedonian folk music on traditional instruments
The Sembrich, located at 4800 Lakeshore Drive in Bolton Landing, presents the third and final in this season's World Music Wednesday series on Wednesday, August 21, at 1:30 p.m. Musical group Cherven Traktor (червен трактор) performs authentic Bulgarian and Macedonian folk music on traditional folk instruments. Admission is $20.
“Our music will touch your soul and move your feet!” says band member Belle Birchfield. “Our music is arranged by Nikolay Kolev, and some of it is composed by him as well. We will play a program for listening and dancing, with a quick teach of the dances. We are totally looking forward to playing in such a perfect summer setting!”
The group is comprised of two couples: Nikolay Kolev and Donka Koleva, and Belle Birchfield and Michael Ginsberg. Cherven Traktor has toured worldwide and each couple has been recognized as world class masters of their art.
Traditional instruments used in this performance include the tambura (long-necked lute), tarambuka (hand drum with a goblet shape) and bowed gadulka (bowed string instrument). The audience is invited to dance after a quick lesson from Mr. Ginsberg.
