Composers pay homage to the past by putting a contemporary spin on older musical forms and even older melodies. Violinist Daniel Szasz brings fiery virtuosity with the Enescu Romanian Rhapsody. The Concerto Grosso pre dates the Symphony but is given a Symphonic treatment by British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams. Stravinsky dips into the rich music of the Baroque composer Pergolesi to create a modern ballet score Pulcinella, a story about a mischievous clown, a tale dating back to 1700. The evening's program includes Stravinsky's "Pulcinella Suite", Enescu's "Romanian Rhapsody", Daniel Szasz soloist, and Vaughn Williams "Concerto Grosso" This is the last concert of the Lake Placid Sinfonietta's 2015 summer festival season and will close with the last movement of Haydn's "Farewell Symphony" with the musicians leaving the stage one by one, blowing out a candle as they go, in an authentic reenactment of the original performance.
