The Bacon Brothers with Paul LarsonKevin Bacon, Paul Larson, Michael Bacon
"Songs to Keep: Treasures of an Adirondack Folk Collector" premieres tonight at nine on Mountain Lake PBS. Join us for an evening of songs, history and Adirondack scenery as we tell the story of journalist and historian Marjorie Lansing Porter, who collected and recorded hundreds of traditional folk songs before they disappeared.
The evening includes the extended cut of the film, plus entertainment from live performers in our studio.
I had a great time producing this piece. It took me all over the Adirondacks and even to Manhattan, where I interviewed Peter Yarrow and Noel Paul Stookey (of Peter, Paul and Mary), and had the pleasure of working with the Bacon Brothers again. They generously donated their time, talents and a song to the project.
I also met some wonderful regional singers, including Alex Smith, Dave Ruch, Lee Knight, and Celia Evans. You'll hear their catchy renditions of songs more than a hundred years old in the program.
If you miss it tonight, it repeats Sunday at noon.
