There is only one weekend left before 'Back-to-School' season fully kicks in: Where has summer gone?
Still looking for a fun activity to attend with friends and family over the weekend? Here below are some suggestions for interesting food events, expositions and concerts that are guaranteed to start your year off right and make awesome "get to know you" and “first day” ice-breakers !
World Press Photo Exhibition
For those who want to see the happenings of the world captured poignantly on camera, I invite you to visit the World Press Photo exhibition, which opened its 10th edition in Montreal last Wednesday at Marché Bonsecours in the Old Port of Montreal.
The exhibition is the most popular traveling photo event in the world and showcases a mix of 150 images from 42 different photographers that captures the essence of the most noteworthy events of 2014. While several themes encompass political and war motifs, others explore the intricacies of nature or the intimacy of the human condition as part of multi-year personal projects.
I was particularly struck by Mads Nissen’s winning image of a Russian homosexual couple who tenderly hold each others gaze in their dimly lit apartment in the heart of St. Petersburg – an image filled with tender love in a country where homophobia, discrimination and persecution still rage.
The exhibition features eight different categories: general news, contemporary issues, sports news, daily life, portraits, nature, sports and multi-year projects. On the second floor of the exhibit are three complementary exhibits: Will Steacy’s DEADLINE , REGARDS- Oxfam –Quebec and WAPIKONI: when cinema builds bridges.
