The National Woman’s salon at the Palais des Congres of Montreal - With Stéphanie Gagnon designer of the Jacket Brand Sefani
This weekend, along with thousands of other enthusiastic females, I attended the National Woman’s Salon at the Palais des Congres of Montreal. This event was best experienced in the company of fellow female family members and friends. The salon was a three-day weekend of interesting culinary, fashion and shopping discoveries with more than 300 exhibitors on hand to offer everything from exclusive food tastings, wine, fashion shows, celebrity guests, free beauty transformations, wellness secrets, cooking demonstrations and useful advice for security and travel.
The exhibition room boasted interesting guests, booths and stands for women of all ages and backgrounds. From renowned experts such as life coach David Bernard, to stylist Jean Airoldi, you could come to find innovative new products, rare jewelry or even discover the latest 2013 spring fashion trends in one of the fashion shows presented by Marina Vintage Style. Some lucky guests even received premium bags filled with free samples of beauty and food tasters as well as information brochures on various promotions and drawings available only at the event.
I visited the salon over two days and I am glad to share with you some of my favorite beauty and food discoveries of the latest innovative new products and services available to us women.
Fashion and Beauty:
Sefani Jackets: Stephanie Gagnon is the talented young designer and brains behind the Sefani brand: a Canadian contemporary and innovative company that creates unique, stylish and comfortable jackets for the modern day woman. Emphasis is given to classic lines, flexible material and sophisticated designs. Taking inspirational chic design elements directly from Milan, Stephanie explains that the Sefani woman is well-travelled, spontaneous, positive and fearless. I fell in love with the numerous designs that had signature buttons, solid colors and subtle details. When trying on one of their jackets (see picture above) I was surprised at the trim but comfortable fit and felt that her styles suited my active lifestyle as a professional World Wide Woman. Shape On: I discovered the secret to having a beautiful, trim and sexy silhouette under that party dress, thanks to the Bust-to-Knee shapewear from ShapeOn. Boasting 12 firming points, the shapers give a comfortable and natural lift to your buttocks while remaining cool and being invisible to the eye. Made in Italy, the shapers are offered in two shades: black and nude and are offered in several sizes to fit almost any height and silhouette. I liked how the material breathed and gave a nice definition to my waist line. The shaper didn’t feel uncomfortable when I sat or even after I finished a hearty meal. Perfect for your next glamorous night out in Montreal! Available from ShapeOnShaper.com
G&G, Godding&Godding beauty products: Every woman knows that a night of luxurious self pampering goes a long way and that nothing feels better to the touch than soft, silky skin; I found the pure silk products with South African essences from Godding&Godding to be divine! As an eczema sufferer, I tried the fynbos body lotion and was glad to feel immediate results on some of my dry arm patches. I also tried the pure silk and marula body butter which gave off a sweet, but not overly overwhelming scent. I liked the fact that both creams absorbed well into my skin and did a good job of hydrating my dry patches. The complete Godding&Godding line is available at the Pure Signature store located at Place de la Cité on Laurier blvd. in Québec City ! Montreal distributors will be coming soon! http://www.facebook.com/l/ RAQGwI8fZAQEW69fIP4InwjBgQJFg2 lS9qiwmIDaF-g6tgQ/www. goddingandgoddingcanada.com/
Mistik Source: When it comes to healthy hair, what you put on your tresses count. I'm always on the lookout for natural products that can help me with dry hair, that's why I was very pleased to discover a new line of hair products called Mistik source that is 100% vegetable based, safe, biodegradable and renewable with 0% synthetics. Having a head full of healthy and shiny hair is only a shampoo or spray away with deliciously scented blueberry detangling mists and decadent, maple scented hair shampoos. A very Canadian themed way to pamper your hair! Available in health food stores and at 2466 Belanger, Montreal. www.mistiksource.com
Viso Cosmetics: I loved their line of biological, organic cosmetics and perfumes. Packaged in cute and feminine pink bottles, their Joya corporal body mist was agreeably sweet with notable essences of vanilla that lingered on my skin for hours. I also really liked the texture of their Bella Crema organic body cream that contains essential argan oils, soft almond extracts and shea butter; everything essential to leave my skin hydrated and lightly scented for the day! Available at www.visocosmetics.ca
Food and Drink:
Lolita Cocktails: These ready-to-drink bottled cocktails mixtures come in attractive slim, glass bottles that are definitely eye-catching and very colorful. Available in a variety of 6 flavors, my personal favorite was the classic bright orange colored Sex on the ... and the bright pink Flirty Daiquiri that burst with the natural flavor of sweet strawberries. These malt beverages are made and distributed from Laval Quebec and contain 9% alcohol. Fun, flirty and great in taste, these bottles are sure to be an instant success at your next party. Mighty Leaf: I am a daily tea drinker and have to say I was pretty impressed with the collection of original aromas on offer from this company. From fresh Ginger Twist, Chamomile Citrus to my personal favorite, Green Tea Tropical, you can be sure that each delicate and pretty little pouch will deliver amazing flavor derived from good quality tea. Just the Ingredients listed for Green Tea Tropical is enough to make my mouth water: Green tea, cornflowers and marigold petals, pineapple pieces and other fruits. If you are a serious tea drinker, you will definitely enjoy this brand. www.mightyleaf.ca
Planter’s peanuts: A healthy snack item, I found Planters nuts to be fresh and flavorful. I really enjoyed sampling their great cracked black pepper cashews as well as their individually packed trail mix with a good assortment of sweets, nuts and fruits. ---- Available in most grocery stores across Quebec. http://www.planterspeanuts.ca/
Green & Black's organic chocolate: Indulging in a piece or two of chocolate daily is highly beneficial for the body and mind. I personally enjoy Green & Black’s dark 70 % bar, as it is slightly sweet without having a chalky aftertaste. Their Almond bar uses whole nuts roasted with their skin on ! I like that this Company has grown to become the world leader in organic and Fair Trade chocolate. Their Maya gold – bar was the 1st fair trade chocolate to be certified in 1994. The company also uses only the finest organically grown ingredients and their product line of chocolate bars appear often in natural health and organic food shops as well as major retailers such as Metro, across the province. http://www.greenandblacks.com/ca/
Kaltbach cheese : I savored two types of cheese from the Emmi caves in Kaltbach Switzerland : The Le Gruyere and the Emmentaler. Both had unmistakable and unique flavors that set them apart from traditional Swiss cheese. The uncut cheese mounds retained a refined appearance and each morsel was a genuine delicacy! To fully develop its full flavor, I recommend taking a piece of the cheese from the fridge and let it sit at room temperature for half an hour before serving. www.emmi.ch
