LAVAL : A Family destination to discover !
It is already mid-summer and with the current heat wave in Montreal, it is tempting to find interesting indoor activities to do as a family to cool off while staying active. If you do not wish to travel far from the city, why not consider a day or weekend trip to LAVAL : Situated north of Montreal island, it is the largest suburb of Montreal and the third largest municipality in the province of Quebec.
Here below are a couple family destinations that are sure to keep young and old active and happy :
Marvel at the discoveries and wonders of Space! Featuring a unique educational space center with large scale exhibits and interactive missions to simulate lunar gravity, The Cosmodome is one of my favorite children friendly museums. If you have kids that are curious about the planets and stars, this is the place to let them learn and explore by trying various missions and playing with the numerous interactive screens on display. The permanent exhibition features an unparalleled collection of space artifacts, including objects from NASA. The impossible Dream exhibit explores man’s first steps on the moon. The Red Planet explores how mankind is currently preparing for the first manned mission to Mars. Easily accessible by the highway and with ample parking and a full cafeteria the Cosmodome is a must visit family attraction.
Skyventure : 2700 Av. Du Cosmodome, Laval, Quebec
Ever dreamed of weightlessness and speed, here is your chance! At SkyVenture guests will live one of the most fabulous experiences of their lives when they let themselves “fall” into the powerful wind tunnel, 45 feet in height! Experienced instructors, that are not only great at briefing young and old participants for a half hour prior to their "flight" but also at teaching you how to control your body and even try doing fancy spins, will guide you throughout your experience. Basic flights packages comprised 2 x 60 seconds flights and then 1 x 2 minute flights. This activity is great for anyone who wants to experience the sensation of free-fall.
A tip: you are not allowed to bring cameras into the tunnel, but they do provide a recording service and a DVD for purchase of your flights which I would highly recommend, as it is great to relive the memories afterwards!
Clip ‘n Climb : Centropolis, 2929 Boulevard Saint-Martin O, Laval, QC H7T 2Y8

At Clip ‘n Climb pre - school kids to retired parents are encouraged to get in shape, challenge your mind and tone your arm and leg muscles by escalating colorful and creatively set walls . A new way of climbing, Clip ‘n Climb Uses automatic belay devices which take in the slack as you climb and then lower you gently down to the ground. Indoor climbing has never been easier, safer or more exciting. Sessions usually last one hour. With individually themed climbing challenges such as the Speed climb, Velcro or Orbital, muscles that you never knew existed will be put to the test in this healthy activity that is fun for everyone!

Ever dreamed of vacationing in Hawaii, going up north and hitting the waves? Curious about body boarding and surfing but never had the chance to give it try yet? It's true that nothing can replace the genuine feeling of ocean water and sand, but Maeva Surf is the next best thing!
The center offers an unforgettable training experience to either individuals, private or semiprivate groups. Wave sessions usually last 2 hours with a mandatory instruction period for beginners with a certified instructor. It is a sheer pleasure to see how easily kids and adults take to the water even with a powerful constant wave of 42 feet in diameter, propelled towards them. The center also features a photo booth area, a store equipped with the latest surfer fashions and a fully equipped ice cream bar for an after activity treat!
Tip: Wear a full swimsuit and t-shit to help cover your arms. Avoid bikinis as the powerful constant waves tend to loosen the strings.
Have a great summer !
