Born in Dakar, Senegal, ILAM’s music is a rich mix inspired by his deep love for his culture as well as his numerous travels. ILAM's name signifies “ Water of Hope”. His mesmerizing music is a bridge that connects both tradition and modernity. The result is an interesting mix of blues, Afro - folk, soul and reggae that is genuine and moving.
It is at a very young age that ILAM discovered a passion for music that he dreamed of sharing with the world. Having completed his guitar studies at the Music Conservatory of the National School of Fine Arts, he further developed his artistic career. He made his debut in 2005 in the Hip-Hop Beneen Squad, mixing rap, acoustic music and traditional Senegalese sounds. He has since come a long way, crossing seas, oceans and continents to arrive here in Montreal.

Having been in Canada for only a short time, ILAM has already been gaining recognition and winning the hearts of his audience. In January 2015, he was selected by the Montreal Council of the Arts to record his first EP in Canadian lands. He aspires to create a unique sound that will connect his African homeland to the rest of the World.
He has already played at the Nuits d'Afrique Festival and at the Rendez-Vous of the World.
Acclaimed at the local Metisse Music Showcase, ILAM won the Audience favorite award as well as the "Coup de Coeur” choice of the Spectra team. These victories have secured ILAM’s up-coming participation at the 2015th edition of the Montreal Francofolies.
With two concerts on the Métis scene at the Francofolies this summer, ILAM is definitely the new rising Afro-pop voice to discover!
