During Winter...Montrealers don’t stay indoors: instead they LOVE to Dance at Igloofest!
From the 16th of January to the 8th of February 2015, thousands of energetic and brave electronic music lovers gathered at the Quays of the Old Port to dance the night away under the stars at Igloofest’s ninth edition!
Over 4 weeks and for 12 electrifying nights, the same organizers who annually bring us Piknic Electronik all summer every Sunday, have assembled the best international and local DJ’s to entertain an enthusiastic crowd that not only braved the freezing temperatures, but also donned their best one- piece winter suits and hats to come out and party for Igloofest’s amazing 2015 edition!
During Winter, brave the indoors: Come and join Montrealers who LOVE to Dance at Igloofest!
The spirit of a true Igloofester!
I am always amazed at the planning and joyful spirit that this winter festival commands. From gigantic steel structures, two main stages, a VIP lounge, colorful ice sculptures, luminous architectural projections, several ice bars, amazing DJ lineup, Sumo suit ice hockey and slippery slides around the ice village...There are several activities on site to keep +18 festive goers entertained!
Visitors could try their skills at sumo ice hockey !
I visited Igloofest on Sunday January 18th with my fellow crew of writers and photographer. After walking around the winter village, trying my hand at sumo ice hockey and grabbing a SAPPORO beer or two in the VIP lounge, I got the chance to hear the spins of superb local talent DJ and Producer Thomas White, the co-Founder of record label Raw Records who mixed grime, juke, trap & 90s RnB in innovative ways. Known for his catchy urban electronic music that takes a post-genre approach to club music, his recent releases are available on Paradisiaca Recordings and Pixelord's Hyperboloid Records.

For those who shy away from going outside during Montreal’s famous harsh winter (January – February temperatures can oscillate between -5 °C and -25°C! ) my best advice for future party goers would be to dress up warmly and cover all exposed skin with several layers. Igloofest even proposes their own one-of-a-kind winter wear competition renamed "Iglooswag" that welcomes costumed dancers portraying character animations ,goth suits, 1970’s neon throwbacks as well as funky hats and wigs! Prizes are attributed to the most creative get-ups and there is a photo booth where you and your friends can immortalize your best Igloofest look!
Animation character costumes are a common sight around the village
Igloofest souvenir hats and other winter sports gear – on sale at the site, have also become a trademark fashion look in all areas around the city:
For those seeking the ultimate Igloofest experience, VIP packages are also available for those who want a stellar view of the stage (perfect for photographers!) and tons of great bonuses: Faster entry to the site, Private terrace near the Sapporo stage, Exclusive access to a heated space in the pavilion. Discounted drinks, free Sapporo beers and not to forget exclusive access to heated bathrooms!
For those who visited this year’s edition, Igloofest would like you opinion and encourage pas goers to fill out their 2015 survey as well as participate in an awesome contest:
They are offering two season passes for the upcoming summer Piknic Electronik and a night at W hotel, to be given away among the respondents !
Good luck and dance to keep warm!
