From June 11th to the 20th, 2015, French music lovers converged in Montreal to enjoy this year’s 27th edition of Les FrancoFolies de Montréal.
Featuring over 1,000 French-language performers from all over the world, as well as attracting over 500,000 visitors annually, several of the performances are free to the public while others are ticketed and held at nearby theaters and concert halls.
A partner to the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, currently celebrating its 36th edition and running from June 26th to July 5th 2015, The festival promotes popular music performed chiefly in the French language or by performers from Francophone countries as well as drawing a wide variety of attendees from local hardcore lovers of chanson française to curious international tourists of all ages and backgrounds. According to organizers, this year one-third of the festival-goers was European and there was a sizable American audience presence.
“The FrancoFolies is becoming a way to spread our pop culture and a tool for international development,” said the president and founder of the festival, Alain Simard.
The FrancoFolies main mission is to promote Francophone music with a uniquely effective program. Musical range varies and one can enjoy rock, hip hop, punk, pop, chanson, folk, and many other styles during the festival's nearly two-week run.
