Algonquin Chapter ADK Outing Schedule for March - April 2013
We thank our trip leaders and we encourage others to lead outings at any time. Watch the “Sports Shorts” in the Press Republican for updates. All outings are open to the public. Notes to participants:
* Please respect the group and be fair in estimating your capabilities.
* Call the trip leader two days in advance unless otherwise noted.
* Expect winter conditions in the mountains after November 1. Wear appropriate clothing and footwear; bring adequate food and liquid for your own needs.
* Sign the liability form provided by the trip leader. Minor children must be accompanied by an adult, other than the trip leader.
Please contribute to the cost of gasoline, if carpooling.
*Note Leaders must be current ADK members. In advance of the outing, leaders must inform participants of the meeting place and time, trip routes and conditions. Trip leaders must file a trip report after the outing to Outings Chair: Jim King, PO Box 73, Cadyville, NY 12918.
Friday, March 1 at Old County Courthouse
Program 7:00 p.m., Meeting 8:00 p.m.
Speaker: Frank Lescinsky
Frank and his wife will present a slide show on Exotic Australia. Exploring islands in the Great Barrier Reef; hiking in and round Kakadu National Park; canoeing in Katherine Gorge; hiking in Tasmania; and exploring the forest coastline of Wilson’s Prom are some of the stops on this wonderful nature tour.
Wednesday March 6, Guided tour at New Land Trust, 236 Plumadore Road, Saranac. Ski, snowshoe, or hike depending on conditions for approximately 2 hours. Meet at Building 236 at 10:00 a.m. Leader: Jim King (518-310-1164). This is the last guided tour at NLT until May 1st.
Wednesday March 6 “Walk about Town” Meet on the steps of Plattsburgh City Hall at 3 p.m. for an hour’s walk in city neighborhoods. Leader: Lynn Valenti. Also March 13, 20, 27.
Thursday, March 7, Cross-country ski Lower Ausable Lake.
Leader: Anne Bailey (518-563-5794).
Sunday March 10, Afternoon outing to ADK Loj followed by dinner. Walk, snowshoe or ski depending on conditions. Call by Wed, Mar 6- for dinner price and menu. Reservations required. All abilities welcome..

Saturday, April 6, Montreal Botanical Gardens visit. Leader: Anne Bailey (518-563-5794).
Saturday April 6, North Country Squares annual pancake breakfast at Sangers’ Sugar House,
Ingraham, NY (off Rt 9 north). Enjoy all you can eat- pancakes plus sausages, warm, fresh maple syrup and coffee followed by a group walk at noon in the sugar bush. Must wear boots.

Program 7:00 p.m., “Prague” , Meeting 8 pm
Speaker: Gib Brown our local meteorologist and science educator will present a slide show and lecture on his recent trip to Prague, Czech Republic. Widely regarded as one of Europe’s most beautiful cities, Prague features a compact medieval center, with a mixture of cobbled lanes and walled courtyards in the shadow of the 9th century Prague Castle.
