Plattsburgh, NY – 12/14/2012 – Mountain Lake PBS is pleased to announce that it is a recipient of a grant from the International Paper (IP) Foundation. The $780 grant will provide the Education & Outreach department with funding for the station’s Imagine Yourself Reading program.
Mountain Lake PBS’ Imagine Yourself Reading Program is modeled after the successful national PBS program, Ready To Learn. The program is focused on building reading skills at home, at school, in child care, and in the community by incorporating the latest research about early childhood literacy.
Imagine Yourself Reading workshops are held throughout our viewing area in partnership with schools, libraries, museums, and other not for profit agencies. These workshops and events aim to teach research based literacy strategies to parents as well as provide a free book and materials so that parents and caregivers can practice these strategies with their children
Jane Owens, Mountain Lake PBS’s Director of Outreach and Education, states "support from companies like International Paper helps Mountain Lake PBS encourage literacy on-the-air, online, and in the community."
The IP Foundation supports non-profit organizations within the communities where International Paper has operating facilities. International Paper gives back to communities through corporate donations, in-kind contributions, employee volunteerism and IP Foundation grants to provide more that $10 million to support hundreds of community based educational, civic and cultural programs that do the right things, in the right way and for the right reasons.
