Plattsburgh, NY – 12/13/2010 – Mountain Lake PBS received a $1,000 grant from Price Chopper's Golub Foundation to fund the station’s Imagine Yourself Reading Program.
“The support of local organizations like Price Chopper’s Golub foundation allows Mountain Lake PBS to encourage literacy through community events, online resources, and kids programming on-air,” said Jane Owens, Director of Outreach and Education at Mountain Lake PBS.
Golub Corporation, the parent company of Price Chopper Supermarkets, formed the Price Chopper's Golub Foundation in 1981. The foundation was established in an effort to enhance and improve the quality of life within Price Chopper communities by providing support to eligible organizations in those communities. Some of the organizations funded through the foundation include hospitals, libraries, universities, museums, and community centers.
Mountain Lake PBS’ Imagine Yourself Reading Program is modeled after the successful national PBS program, Ready To Learn. The program is focused on building reading skills at home, at school, in child care, and in the community by incorporating the latest research about the most effective ways for kids to build reading skills.
