Two-Hour Performance Special by Mountain Lake PBS Set to Air on PBS Stations Nationwide in December
Plattsburgh, NY – 9/27/2010 – Mountain Lake PBS, the public media organization serving New York, Vermont and Quebec, is teaming up with Cirque du Soleil to create a performance special for PBS’ December pledge season.
The program, entitled Cirque du Soleil: Flowers in the Desert, will showcase the permanent Cirque du Soleil production shows on the Las Vegas Strip, along with behind-the-scenes footage and backstage interviews. Mountain Lake PBS is producing this special in collaboration with Cirque du Soleil and has spent the last four months exploring Cirque archives and material for this two-hour, high definition production.
“The mission of PBS is to explore new ideas and new worlds through media. The creative imagination of Cirque du Soleil is a perfect fit” said Alice Recore, President and CEO of Mountain Lake PBS.
“We are very excited to be collaborating with Mountain Lake PBS on this project and welcome the opportunity to highlight our Las Vegas shows to the PBS audience for the first time” said Jordan Fiksenbaum, Vice-President of Marketing & Public Relations, Resident Shows Division North America, Cirque du Soleil.
Cirque du Soleil: Flowers in the Desert will showcase mesmerizing performances from Cirque du Soleil Las Vegas resident shows. This performance special, to be featured on PBS stations nationwide, will be the first time excerpts from these shows located at MGM Resorts International properties and Treasure Island have been broadcast as part of a television program in the United States.
“Cirque du Soleil started as a local street performance troupe and has grown into an international phenomenon” said Colin Powers, Director of Programming and Production at Mountain Lake PBS. “It’s a privilege to collaborate with an organization that has become such an extraordinary success.”
