I had a a chance to interview the manager of Plattsburgh New York Restaurants, a Facebook page that is designed to do giveaways and advertisements for local restaurants.
Eva: When did you start Plattsburgh New York Restaurants?
PNYR: PNYR is about 2 years old
Eva: How did you get started doing giveaways?
PNYR: A fan mentioned the idea of a giveaway and "liking" it to find a winner by randomly selecting from the likes - every person is assigned a number from the likes list - if the fans number comes up after picking out of a hat - that fan wins - it is very simple and truly random. Our fans input is huge and they help direct where the page is going - we repost some of our fan posts as it reaches more people that way. Our fans are very loyal and very smart when it comes to our restaurant scene - we have a close group.
Eva: Do you have a favorite restaurant in Plattsburgh?
PNYR: All our PNYR are our favorites - we love them all.
Eva: What do you like most about your job?
PNYR: This is actually a hobby and a way to give back to our area when it comes to the restaurant scene - we don't get paid - we just love interacting with our fans and love working with our restaurants to make our restaurant scene even better.
Eva: Has a restaurant ever gotten angry at something you posted?
PNYR: There are times a restaurant may be disappointed at some of the posts that may get heated but most understand social media and it's free nature - PNYR does monitor posts and does delete posts that are vulgar or seriously disrespectful - all profanity is deleted thru a filter and any personal attacks are deleted.
Eva: Have you thought about expanding to other areas in the hospitality industry?
PNYR: we want to keep it restaurants only - our effectiveness is our ability to keep the focus on one thing - restaurants - that works best!!! As for starting other pages we have started "Plattsburgh New York Businesses" and "Plattsburgh NY Area Events" we have let those pages grow by themselves without a lot of input - we spend so much time building PNYR so those pages are much smaller in scope!
Eva: Finally, did you have a favorite PBS show as a kid?
PNYR: As a kid Sesame Street ruled!!!!
